Letter from Mrs Chambers

Dear Parents/Carers
Many thanks for responding to our questionnaire so promptly and for the overwhelmingly positive and complimentary comments about our approach to school during this pandemic. All the staff are very grateful for your lovely words of thanks and support. I appreciate that there are concerns raised by parents and carers around the collection of pupils after school which include the lack of social distancing by adults and concerns about the state of the path moving into the winter months.
On the questionnaire, a parent suggested that if we change the start and finish times of the children so that older age groups are coming into school with younger age groups, there will be fewer adults outside the gates as many older children walk to school without parents. We think this is a good idea and worth trying. We have also had a look at which classes have the majority of siblings too, to reduce the numbers of families waiting outside.
So after half term the following changes to start and finish times will be implemented.
8.40am –2.55pm Year 4 and Year 2
8.50am-3.05pm Reception and Year 3
9am-3.15pm Year 1, Year 5 and Year 6
We hope that these changes address some of the concerns raised.
With regards to the path. We are currently in the process of looking for some solutions to the ‘muddy’ problem and also looking for ways in which greater levels of social distancing can be achieved. We are working with Myles Hogg and a representative from Cheshire West to investigate some possible solutions. I will keep you updated with regards to progress on this matter.

S4YC before and after school club

Following a review with Governors of our offer of providing before and after school care , we concluded that after school club only will remain in place until 5pm for the time being. It was felt that as Cheshire West and Chester remains in local COVID alert level High we felt that this was not the right time to be increasing the number of contacts in school by opening up the before school club. This situation will remain under review by Governors.

As we are unable to show prospective parents around school at the moment, we have had a professional video made to reflect our ethos. This has now been placed on our website. Please forward the link to any prospective parents that you are aware of in our community. There are some real stars in the making!

It has been really lovely having the children in school this half term and getting back to some sort of normality, even if it is very different. The children have responded positively and shown understanding, compassion and resilience. We have been very proud of them. We are looking forward to next half term and working closely with you to continue to provide the best that we can for Willaston children. Have a relaxing (socially distanced) half term break. Please use the email address to inform us of any positive cases through the half term holiday.

Kindest regards

Mrs Chambers
