Letter from Mrs Chambers

Dear Parents

In these unprecedented times, we thought it wise to re-iterate the circumstances surrounding Coronavirus testing and the stance taken by school. We are all in new territory and experience is helping ascertain best working practises.

Government is advising that you should only get your child tested for Covid, should they be displaying one or more of the below symptoms or you have been asked to get tested :-

  • A high temperature
  • A new, continuous cough
  • A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

We believe there is some discrepancy over what is a new continuous cough and were informed today that this meant either coughing a lot for an hour or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual). Should you require further clarification on whether your child’s cough constitutes a new, continuous cough, we would suggest you gain clarification from your GP.

There have been instances within school where children (and their siblings) have been sent home with Covid symptoms. In these instances, we request that the child who is displaying symptoms (NOT the sibling) is tested for Covid and that the family follow government guidance and self-isolate for 14 days or until a negative test result has been received.

There have been many useful pieces of information circulating on social media and we thought the attached flow chart may be of benefit when trying to decide if your child is fit to attend school. This has not been drafted at school and therefore the link which suggests you can arrange a swab test does not work. We just thought you might find the information helpful.

We currently have children awaiting test results and we would like to thank all parents for following correct procedures in these instances.

We want to raise awareness that should any test results come back positive, the entire year group class will have to self-isolate for 14 days at a moment’s notice.

We do understand that this will cause inconvenience and we will try to get information to you as quickly as we can.

In the instance of any child having to self-isolate, work will be provided on Seesaw.

We will of course continue to update you with information as it comes to hand.

With best wishes

Mrs Chambers
